Builds in Minutes, Teaches for Years

The Makeblock mBot assembles in about 15 minutes using clearly illustrated step-by-step instructions, making the build itself part of the learning experience. No prior electronics knowledge is required. Kids learn how motors, sensors, and circuits connect together simply by putting the robot together. Once assembled, the mBot becomes a real remote-control robot with line-following behavior, obstacle avoidance, and manual control – all ready to demo immediately after the build is complete.

Coding starts with Scratch, a visual block-based programming language ideal for beginners who have never written code before. As kids grow more confident, they can transition to Arduino, a real programming environment used by engineers and hobbyists worldwide. Three free Makeblock apps on mobile let them program wirelessly from a phone or tablet, and the mBlock software on PC supports more advanced project development at their own pace.

A Platform That Expands Without Limits

The mBot is not a closed toy – it is an open-source platform compatible with over 100 electronic add-on modules and more than 500 parts from the Makeblock ecosystem, including LEGO-compatible components. Coding cards and lesson guides are included in the box so kids have structured activities to follow, plus the freedom to invent their own projects.

Note that a CR2025 battery for the remote controller and 4 AA batteries for the robot are not included – pick those up alongside the kit. The mBot makes a genuinely outstanding gift for curious, creative kids who are ready to do something more interesting than passively watching a screen.
